Growing up in a small town makes a good carpenter. Patrick Carley
was raised in Sharon, Connecticut, a wonderful small farming community with a tremendous amount of
history. Part of that history is his family. His great grandfather, John Carley and his
uncle Don Carley were very well known in Sharon for their carpentry skills
building furniture and homes.
Patrick grew up with building in his brain.
At age nine, he created his first, four level tree house, of which included a
secret bomb shelter and a viewing deck on top. As he grew into his teens, he
really took interest in the arts and one of those was wood working. Attending Housatonic
Valley Regional High School in Falls Village Ct. Patrick took many courses in
carpentry and architectural drawing under the instruction of Paul Padua who
always pumped him with positive reinforcement. After graduating from high
school, Patrick joined the United States Navy to become a Hull Technician, which
is known in the military as a ship fitter or jack of all trades. He was
stationed onboard the USS Coral Sea from 1982 to1985 in the Repair
Division, where he honed his skills in welding, pipe fitting, sheet metal
fabrication, fire main maintenance, damage control and of course, carpentry.
After receiving an honorable discharge from
the Navy, Patrick moved to Central Florida where he started his own window
cleaning business. The business was a success but Patrick wanted to do something
more creative with his life. So he sold his business and went to acting and
broadcasting school. He enjoyed doing both but it wasn't paying the bills. He
then landed a job building fine furniture using exotic and traditional hardwood
lumber. After two years of building and finishing furniture, he was eager to get
out of the shop setting. He was not sure how his talents would take him outside until one day a
neighbor asked him to build a multilevel deck, he replied why of course.
Well, that was the start of Patrick Carley's Outdoor Wood Crafting and it just
kept getting bigger. Patrick started designing new styles of decks, pergolas,
trellises, and even outdoor showers. His work has been featured in many periodicals
including Remodeling Magazine,
the
Orlando Sentinel Sunday Magazine and has also been featured in television commercials
and in major motion pictures.
Patrick is still in the business of building some of the finest works of art you
have ever seen and is now starting a new venture that teaches you how to
build your own outdoor projects. A very easy to follow
"How To" DVD video
program is scheduled to be in stores near you very soon.
